For years I had oily skin and then combination. However, for the past year my skin has been dry. This means that I have had to not only change my skincare routine, but also my make-up preferences and application methods.
If you have dry skin like me then make-up can look patchy in areas and you can’t apply lots of powder. I apply eye cream, moisturiser and sunscreen but my make-up can still sit a bit weird on my skin if I’m not careful. Through trial and error I have discovered some make-up tricks that work well for me so I thought I would share them with all the dry skin girls out there!
Prepare your skin
Make sure that your skin is well moisturised before you apply make-up. Think of your skin as an artist’s canvas – you need a smooth surface for the best application! As I mentioned before, apply eye cream, moisturiser and sunscreen. I usually do my eye make-up whilst I wait for the products to absorb into my skin.

Choose the right primer
Some primers don’t work with certain foundations or skin types. At the moment I’m loving The Ordinary HA Blur primer and Bare Minerals Good Hydrations primer. They make my skin feel amazing and most foundations and BB creams sit well on top.
Avoid matte full coverage foundations
I know they look amazing but they are a nightmare to blend in when my skin is extra dry. A BB cream or dewy foundation will be your best friend. I like using Gatineau Perfection Ultime Complexion Cream when my skin is drier than usual.

Don’t use a full coverage concealer under your eyes
Want a more youthful, bright complexion? Ditch the full coverage matte concealer. Wannabe make-up artists on YouTube and Instagram love to apply a huge triangle of matte concealer under the eyes and although it might look good on camera, it doesn’t look great in natural light. It’s a sure way of making your face look flat and older than you are!
I like using Becca Under Eye Corrector because it disguises dark circles thanks to its pinky undertone and makes your eyes look brighter and more awake.
I also love using Bare Minerals Serum Concealer because it provides great coverage and doesn’t make you look cakey.

Be careful with powder
I like to set my make-up with a loose powder, but I have to be very careful. I apply loose powder sparingly over my face because even if I use a little too much then it can make my make-up look a bit patchy. My favourite powder of all time is Bare Minerals Mineral Veil.
