Nutribuddy Breakfast Shake my two week experience

Hands up if you skip breakfast if you’re in a rush in the morning! I end up grabbing some fruit or a gluten free cereal bar at times like that, but those should be snacks; not a breakfast! I have coeliac disease and lactose intolerance so I don’t have the luxury of being impulsive and “eating whatever” at meal times. I want a nutritious breakfast that’s also quick and easy to make.

So I thought I’d try Nutribuddy, a gluten free and vegan protein brand. They make a range of products but the Nutribuddy Breakfast Shake really appealed to me. I chose the “smooth strawberry flavour” and pink shaker bottle. Other flavours include chocolate and vanilla and come in “crunchy” or “smooth” formulas.

Nutribuddy reached out to me and asked if I would like to try the shake for free in return for my thoughts. However, I will give you my honest opinion! If I don’t like a product then I won’t pretend to like it.

Anyhoos…

Preparation

Three scoops of Nutribuddy Breakfast Shake (scoop included) into the shaker bottle and then added 300ml unsweetened almond milk (you can use any dairy or plant based milk). Give it a shake.

Taste

I was worried that the strawberry flavour would be artificial and very sweet, but I’m glad I was wrong! This tasted really nice and was nice and smooth despite being made of gluten free oats and plant-based protein (vegan alternative to whey). If you leave it between sips then the powder can sit at the bottom of the bottle. Just give it a shake before drinking again and it’s fine.

The shake can get a little too “bitty” at the end so it isn’t as smooth as I thought it would be.

“Fullness”

Just for a bit of context, I’m underweight and have a high metabolism (thank you mama and dada bear) so I have to eat at regular intervals throughout the day. If I drink this Nutribuddy Breakfast Shake at, say, 8am (I also eat some fruit like an apple, peach, grapes etc), then I feel snackish by 10 or 10.30am. I’ll grab a Nakd bar and more fruit to tie me over until lunch time. If you have a slower metabolism then this might keep you feeling satisfied for longer than 2-2.5 hours. I don’t know for sure though, obviously!

What is Nutribuddy Breakfast Shake?

Nutribuddy Breakfast Shake contains gluten free oats, seeds, coconut and stevia (natural sweetener). High in fibre and protein to keep your tummy from rumbling!

It does not contain bulkers, stabilisers, emulsifiers, preservatives or thickeners (so basically ingredients that you wouldn’t eat by themselves). Quite a lot of protein shakes on the market do contain a long list of chemicals with super long names, but this one doesn’t.

It’s also gluten free and vegan so it’s suitable for most people!

Is it a diet/weight loss shake?

No. I mean you could use it for weight loss if it helps you to eat less during the day, but I don’t use it as a dieting aid (I just as a convenient breakfast). It also doesn’t contain any laxatives such as senna (many “weight loss” shakes do). It’s not good to do that to your body!

Final thoughts

Pros

  • Quick and easy to prepare
  • Gluten and dairy free
  • Tastes good (I need to try their other flavours!)
  • Cute shaker bottle and glass storage jar!

Cons

  • Not as smooth as I thought it would be, but it is not so grainy that it’s difficult to drink. The shaker bottle is great!
  • Only keeps me full for 2 hours, but then again I have a high metabolism.
  • Nutribuddy have discontinued the banana flavour and I really want to try it – please bring it back!

Try it for yourself!
